Regarding allergens and our products, as of April of 2019, we revised our allergen statements to align with current FDA and Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA) requirements. This is why previous products you used had a "Manufactured In" statement and new packaging does not.
How have our Allergen Statements Changed?
Our allergen statements have changed in two significant ways:
1. We have removed all "Manufactured in" statements, such as "Manufactured in a facility that also uses tree nuts, soy, wheat, and milk," from our packaging.
2. We are clearly labeling all products that contain major food allergens with a "Contains" statement. For instance, our bars are labeled, "CONTAINS: Peanuts."
This means that any product that does not contain one of the FDA's nine major food allergens (milk, egg, fish, Crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, wheat, peanuts, soybeans, sesame) will not have an allergen advisory.
Why Did We Change Our Allergen Statements?
Our previous allergen statements did not adhere to FDA and FALCPA's current labeling standards. Our new statements will clearly and unambiguously alert customers to the presence of any of the nine major food allergens.
Although our products will no longer have the "Manufactured In" statement on the package, we have not changed our allergen safety processes.
Each manufacturing facility follows Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and follows allergen control strategies to minimize the potential cross-contact of food allergens. These practices include, but are not limited to, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) training, separation of like materials, and sanitation.
